I am annoyed by the "trial & error" editing to get code in postings to look right -- and then it's wrong if you copy it out. Is it possible to improve this, perhaps by changing the default font for code blocks to a monospaced font? And/or changing the handling of embedded tabs?

If not, I guess I'll just have to figure out how to "filter" code to / from the forum code blocks...

From what I can tell it looks like code blocks are using 'Courier New' font which is monospaced. Perhaps the formatting issue is caused by embeded tab characters.

Certainly part of it is, but replacing all tabs with spaces doesn't make the problem go away. It acts like printable characters are monospaced, but spaces aren't. I don't know what it does with tabs, but that's strange, also. I'll do some more experimenting, I guess.

You've undoubtedly noticed that leading whitespace in regular text (not Code, Quote, etc.) is simply discarded. Not as much of a problem as in Code blocks, but annoying. And pointless, as far as I can see. I could see reasons for whitespace compression, but just discarding it?
