I can't find this behaviour documented anywhere ..

Code:
      MOVE.b      #0,$C027.w        * where does this write to ?
                                    * it should write to $FFFFC027

LEA         $C027.w,a0        * set the same address
      MOVE.b      #0,(a0)           * causes an exception

.. both should behave the same.

Found while tracing through code extracted from the Sage II BIOS.

Lee.
